It's always hard to predict what the Oakland Raiders will do from year to year with their coaching staff but we figured head coach Tom Cable would be safe after leading the team to an 8-8 record and a 6-0 record in the AFC West.
Tom Cable Not Expected To Return To Raiders In 2011, According To Report
Apparently, we figured wrong. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Sunday morning that the Raiders are not expected to bring Tom Cable back next year. Raiders fans at SB Nation’s Silver and Black Pride would not be in favor of that move.
Tom Cable has done the best that he could in Oakland. Is he a world beating strategist? No. But what he brings to the table is the fact that he is a passionate life long Raider fan who has instilled old school Raider tradition back into this organization. The players love him and so do many of the fans. Tom Cable is what he is and he doesn't deserve to have his parade rained on so soon.
Coincidentally, it was a report on the Raiders head coach that helped launch Schefter’s career. He reported after the 2006 season that the Raiders would fire Art Shell, which caused the Raiders to call Schefter a “false rumor mongerer”. And of course the Raiders then fired Art Shell.
The Raiders will have to decide by January 18 whether or not they’ll pick up the option in Cable’s contract.
