St. John’s Stuns No. 13 Georgetown 61-58, Improves To 3-0 In Big East

After Monday’s game between No. 13 Georgetown and St. John’s, one team is 3-0 in the mega-tough Big East and the other is 1-2.

Who'd have guessed the Johnnies would be the ones at 3-0? Justin Brownlee's tip-in with 10 seconds remaining lifted the Red Storm over the 13th-ranked Hoyas, 61-58, in a Big East battle at Madison Square Garden.

Brownlee finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists for the Red Storm (10-3, 3-0 Big East), who have won five in a row. Dwight Hardy scored a team-high 20 points.

Hollis Thompson had 16 points and six boards off the bench for the Hoyas (12-3, 1-2), who have lost two of three. Jason Clark, Henry Sims and Chris Wright each chipped in seven points.

For the Storm, it’s a heckuva turnaround for a team that lost for Fordham and St. Bonaventure a few weeks back. We’ll now if St. John’s is for real-for real by the time January is over. The Johnnies now continue a stretch that sees them playing seven ranked-teams in eight games, including No. 1 Duke and No. 4 Syracuse.

St. John’s and Georgetown will re-match on January 26th in D.C.

Georgetown blog Casual Hoya will have more reaction from the game.
