Sergio 'Kun' Aguero is on top of most clubs' wish list at forward, and Athletico Madrid have claimed that both Real Madrid and Chelsea have been turned down in approaches for the 22 year-old Argentine striker this winter. Step forward Tottenham Hotspur, who had apparently bid nearly £40M for the rights to Aguero. Spurs have been linked to a slew of big names at forward today - but with no offence intended to the likes of Andy Carroll, Guiseppe Rossi, and Fernando Llorente, none of them come close to touching the sheer potential of Aguero.
Tottenham Hotspur Fail In Transfer Bid For Sergio Aguero
With the need for a striker pretty well established - neither Jermaine Defoe nor Peter Crouch are Champions League calibre - Spurs could make a huge statement by not simply going for a good player but a great one, and Kun Aguero's career could certainly lead him down that path. There's a reason so many club are after him, and even for team with relatively limited resources like Tottenham, Aguero makes a lot of sense.
The bid to land Aguero seems to have failed, but Spurs' management team seems like it's juggling many, many possible deals right now. After shipping hapless Robbie Keane (and his £65K per week salary) out of White Hart Lane, Tottenham have some cash to play with as well as an obvious need. The next 24 hours look to be very interesting indeed.
