The NHL doesn’t start back up until Tuesday night, so the AHL All-Star game is in the hockey spotlight Monday. The game will pit the Eastern Conference against the Western Conference and will be played in front of a sold-out Giant Arena in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
2011 AHL All-Star Game: It’s The Minor League’s Time To Shine
Every team has a representative in the game, but the major stars are Alexandre Giroux of the Oklahoma City Barons and property of the Edmonton Oilers for the Western Conference and Corey Locke of the Binghamton Senators, property of the Ottawa Senators. These two players are the top two players in the AHL in points, with Locke beating Giroux by two points.
The Hershey Bears are the farm team for the Washington Capitals, so naturally the crowd is pro-Bears players and anti-Penguins players, which was all the more evident during pre-game introductions. As always with any all-star game, expect a high scoring game that doesn't have a lot of defense.
