A day before their crucial top of the table clash at the Emirates to face Arsenal, Manchester City have agreed to a transfer fee with German club Wolfsburg that will allow 24 year old Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko to augment an already strong City attack. The reported fee agreed upon by both parties is £27 million.
Manchester City Agree With Wolfsburg On Edin Dzeko Transfer Fee
Just where Dzeko will fit in with an already crowded lot of forwards is yet to be seen. With a list of recent summer acquisitions at City running a mile long, Dzeko may have to earn his playing time depending on the formation Roberto Mancini elects to implement.
Dzeko has spoken about his desire to play up front with a strike partner in a 4-4-2 formation while Roberto Mancini's City prefers 4-3-3 as a myriad of players join in on the attack. City do possess the personnel needed to revert to a 4-4-2 with Carlos Tevez potentially partnering Dzeko up front. Questions do however remain over current personnel, where they'll fit in and who needs to be off loaded before the end of the January transfer window.
All minor details to be worked out in the following days as Mancini only briefly spoke to media in England as Wednesday's league battle away to Arsenal is currently taking precedence. As witnessed on The Telegraph, Mancini's comments reflected that matters at hand were the main focus as Dzeko's plaudits took a back seat.
“He is a good player and all the teams in Europe want him. But we have an important game at Arsenal coming up and I will speak about him after that”.
As City look to match pace with Manchester United for top spot in the league, they'll be without important players the likes of David Silva and Mario Balotelli for Wednesday's match in North London. For now at least, it seems as if Manchester City have gotten their man, again.
