HBO’s first team sport 24/7 -- “24/7 Penguins/Capitals: Road to the N.H.L. Winter Classic” -- was a huge hit, drawing in nearly the same amount of viewers as their boxing incarnations of the documentary series. The reasons are obvious: fans love getting a behind-the-scenes look at athletes and coaches. It creates moments like this:
HBO Exploring The Possibility Of More ‘24/7’ Series; MLB Could Be Next
↵
↵HBO is attempting to do the right thing, and give us more such programming. In a New York Times article, HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg says the network is looking into extending the 24/7 series to other sports:
↵↵“This might have been a game-changer and proven that we should pursue other leagues and other sports. We’ve talked to other leagues over the last couple of years. But now there’s much more awareness of this kind of programming.”
↵↵One league they’ve pursued is the NBA, which has apparently turned down HBO. Major League Baseball is interested, however, and there is also talk of doing a 24/7 for the Ryder Cup. Both of which would be outstanding. Hopefully for the sake of the fans, more leagues open their doors (and locker rooms) to HBO.
