The 2011 PGA Tour season will begin at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions on the Plantation Course at Kapalua in Maui. Geoff Ogilvy, the two-time defending champion, suffered an injury on Tuesday to his right index finger after cutting it on coral reef while at the beach. Ogilvy received more than enough stitches, as 12 were put in out of precautionary measures.

If Ogilvy can’t play, it will be the first time since 1961 that the defending champion hasn’t participated in the Tournament of Champions. Masters winner Zach Johnson status is also uncertain as he suffered a right toe injury after running into a concrete step in flip flops.
The slim 34-man field is composed of winners on Tour from the previous season. It’s the only tournament of the year where a player must win a tournament to qualify.
