Game ball of the week: Landry Jones, QB, Oklahoma

Each week we're going to give out the proverbial game ball to whomever had the college football performance and talk about their chances in the NFL.

It's always interesting to watch how players react in a rivalry game. Oklahoma junior quarterback Landry Jones reacted impressively against Texas on Saturday. He finished the game 31 of 50 for 367 yards and three touchdowns.

The 62 percent completion percentage wasn't Jones' best of the season, nor was it his most yards or touchdowns passing. But if Jones shows NFL talent evaluators a highlight reel, it will undoubtedly contain a play made early in Oklahoma's 55-17 win. On third-and-25, Jones showed he could place the ball against zone coverage.

, Jones spiraled the ball over the cornerback but in front of the safety. It landed perfectly in Reynolds’ hands for a first down. It showed Jones can read the defense and put nice zip on the ball through coverage.
That was the key play for Jones, but not only what will make him succeed at the next level. Jones was taking snaps from under center, he was showing off a nice arm all game and stood in the face of the Texas blitz and didn’t look rattled.
Jones may stay behind

Matt Barkley

as the second-best quarterback in the 2012 NFL Draft, but if he keeps making key plays like the one on third-and-25, he might give him a push.
