Todd McShay of ESPN’s Scouts Inc. released his first 2012 NFL Draft big board on Wednesday and there were a few interesting names in his top 32.
Todd McShay 2012 NFL Draft big board features some surprises
Namely, McShay has Oklahoma junior quarterback Landry Jones as the third-best overall prospect while Matt Barkley of Southern California is all the way down at 22.
But the interesting names include Connecticut defensive tackle Kendall Reyes at 24, Memphis defensive tackle Dontari Poe at 28 and and South Carolina defensive end Melvin Ingram all the way up at 19.
While it’s not necessarily noteworthy that Ingram is on McShay’s board, that high of a placement is. I’m still trying to figure out what Ingram projects to as a pro. South Carolina uses him in so many different spots, it’s hard to tell where he’s best suited. He plays well at defensive tackle, but at 6-foot-2 and 272 pounds, it’s unlikely he’d fit there at the next level.
As for Poe, the massive junior fills the nose tackle niche probably better than Washington’s Alameda Ta’amu (who McShay has at 16).
One name that was a pleasant surprise was North Carolina linebacker Kevin Reddick at No. 30. Reddick has been overshadowed during his career, but is a productive player who can drop back in coverage.
Speaking of North Carolina players, missing from McShay’s board is outside linebacker Zach Brown.See McShay’s full 2012 NFL Draft big board here. Like Mel Kiper’s this one is also ESPN In$ider content.
