Boston College at Virginia Tech NFL Draft watch notes

Which will prove to be the better prospect today when Boston College plays at Virginia Tech?

Will it be the instincts and tackling ability of BC middle linebacker Luke Kuechly or the athleticism and playmaking ability of Virginia Tech's David Wilson? Both are at or near the top of their position groups in the 2012 NFL Draft and presumably will be seeing a lot of one another today.

I tend to like both more than most because they have skills that easily translate to the NFL. Kuechly moves around really well in space and closes on the ball carrier with an impact. Kuechly leads the nation by a sizable margin with 99 total tackles this season. It's hard to believe he's only a junior. Wilson is also a junior whose game is suited best for a zone scheme. That's not to say, however, he couldn't fit in other systems. While Wilson isn't exactly a power back, he's reminiscent to the Steelers' Rashard Mendenhall.

Hokies junior Jayron Hosley is the kind of cornerback that opposing teams try to avoid. He's not making quite as many plays this season as he has in the past, but is a dangerous player. Hokies quarterback Logan Thomas is an intriguing player. He's only a redshirt sophomore, so I'm not paying a lot of attention to his game. But at a listed 6-foot-6 and 254 pounds, it's hard to not to notice Thomas. Also for Virginia Tech, guard Jaymes Brooks and tackle Blake DeChristopher are draftable prospects, as is safety Eddie Whitley and wide receiver Jarrett Boykin.

Eagles cornerback Donnie Fletcher is an interesting prospect. He has good size at 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds. He's a good zone player because he reads plays really well and breaks quickly.

This player should be a plug-and-play replacement for Mekhi Becton right off the bat.

He’s a bit of a liability in the run game, but his potential in the pass game was enough for Buffalo Rumblings.

It’s a high-potential pick for a Detroit defense that needs a solid pass rusher.
