Glaring NFL Team Needs

Welcome back to our Glaring Team Needs series! We are inching closer to the midway point of the season and there are only three teams left without a win. Since we are starting back from the top, that seems like a good place to begin. In a “if the draft started today” scenario we would be looking at the Colts, Dolphins, and Rams. Its a close race based on the strength of schedule tiebreaker. In fact, the biggest reason the Colts are in the lead for the first overall pick is because the other two winless teams have already had their bye weeks. Having the extra opponent lowers the Colts strength of schedule, awarding them first chance at Andrew Luck. Since the Colts don’t have their bye until week 11, I don’t have a lot of faith that all three will still be without a win by then. Lets take a lot at what these teams may be looking for at the top of the draft.

1. Indianapolis Colts - Biggest Need: QB The debate will be raging right up until Draft Day 2012 about what the Colts will do with this pick: Luck, other position cause Manning will be back, or Trade. A trade is very enticing because if Manning does come back healthy and another team offers a "Herschel Walker to the Vikings" type of trade, they could build a strong foundation and wait our Manning's contract to pick his heir. Barring that scenario, they have to take him. The rookie wage scale keep his cost low (estimated 5yr, $25M) and he is fantastic insurance should Manning not fully recover. 2012 Draft Pick - Andrew Luck, QB Stanford Whether its through a trade or they just that bad, who ever makes the first overall selection is taking Andrew Luck.
