The Oakland Raiders signed veteran cornerback Lito Sheppard today to bolster their defensive backfield. Sheppard was on the Raiders roster prior to the season but didn't make it out of final cuts. Cornerback Chris Johnson has a hamstring issue and rookie DeMarcus Van Dyke was locked up the other starting corner position. It's likely Sheppard's re-signing is a "just in case" move with Johnson's injury.
Raiders Sign Lito Sheppard, Will Audition TJ Houshmandzadeh
The Oakland Raiders are bringing back defensive back Lito Sheppard and bringing in wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh for a workout this week.
The Raiders will also workout wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh tomorrow, according to reports. Houshmandzadeh spend the 2010 NFL season on the Baltimore Ravens and caught just 30 passes for 398 yards and two touchdowns. Raiders quarterback Carson Palmer worked out with Houshmandzadeh in the off season and had a nice rapport with him from their days together on the Bengals. Raiders head coach Hue Jackson is also familiar with Houshmandzadeh, having coached the Bengals wide receivers while Houshmandzadeh was there.
