Each week we're going to give out the proverbial game ball to whomever had the college football performance and talk about their chances in the NFL.
To say Illinois wide receiver A.J. Jenkins had a big game Saturday against Northwestern would be a gross understatement. It's more like Jenkins had an all-time game.
Jenkins set an Illinois record with 268 yards on 12 catches. It was the fourth-best receiving day ever in the Big Ten. Among his 12 receptions were three touchdowns. On the season, Jenkins has 40 catches for 633 yards and five scores.
Game ball of the week: A.J. Jenkins, WR, Illinois
As a pro prospect, he is reminiscent of for Southern California wide out
, now of the Tennessee Titans. The two are nearly identical in size, with Jenkins listed at 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds while Williams was seven pounds heavier coming out.
They’re also similar on the field as well. Jenkins isn’t may not time the fastest at the Scouting Combine, but he gets off the line nicely and is an adept route runner. He shows a good burst in his route running to quickly get open on slants.
Jenkins is probably a little better than Williams after the catch, which should bode well for his draft stock. Williams was picked 77th overall in the 2010 NFL Draft. He struggled to become more of a go-to player for the Titans but should get more chances with
out of the season.
