Reed Sorenson finds ride for Kansas Lottery 300
Reed Sorenson, who is currently third in the NASCAR Nationwide Series chamopionship, lost his ride on Tuesday when he was released by Turner Motorsports. It was announced today that Sorenson will race this weekend at Kansas Speedway in the MacDonald Motorsports’ No. 82.
Sorenson is currently 49 points behind points leader Ricky Stenhouse, Jr as the season slowly comes to a close. The No. 82 has only fan four races this season, and Sorenson will have to qualify the car on time.
"I know [Sorenson] wants to race and he wants to stay as well-placed in the points as he can," MacDonald said. "We wouldn't even have the car on the track this weekend if it wasn't for [sponsor] K-Love, so we're here to give them as much exposure as we can -- to get a top-10 if we can."
The No. 82 was orginially entered in the Kansas Lottery 300 for Scott Wimmer, who qualified the car 28th last weekend at Dover. This was a program MacDonald designed as preperation for this weekend. MacDonald later when on to say that Wimmer and Sorenson worked out the switch.
Sorenson will be teammate to Blake Koch, who is in the No. 81 Dodge. Koch is currently in a battle with Timmy Hill for the NASCAR Nationwide Rookie of the Year title. MacDonald didn’t get official clearned to use Sorenson until 90 minutes before Nationwide practice was set to begin.
The possibility of Sorenson running the rest of the year for MacDonald Motorsports’ is still uncertain. MacDonald went on to say “It’s too early to look beyond this weekend. I think Sorenson needs to get in our car and see how we run and where our weaknesses are, and together see how we can overcome some of those weaknesses to meet his expectations.”
Sorenson will also race the No. 7 Dodge Sprint Cup car this weekend for Robby Gordon Motorsports.
