Every week we’re giving out the proverbial game ball to college football’s top player of the week and then having a quick break down on the player’s prospects in the NFL.
Game ball of the week: Case Keenum, QB, Houston

Okay, seriously, the idea behind these game ball of the week posts wasn't to point out the best quarterback performance of the week. It just happens to turn out that way. I even made a concerted effort to try and come up with a better choice. But you cannot deny the game that Houston's Case Keenum had.
Keenum’s nine-touchdown, 538-yard performance Thursday night against Rice defies all adjectives. Try to come up with one. Whatever it is, it’s a poor descriptor of Keenum’s night. Check out this week’s Numerical on SBNation.com for more Keenum stat nutiness.
I provided some thoughts on Keenum’s pro prospects last week. Find those here. Although quoting oneself is extremely masturbatory, I’m going to do it anyway. It’s my blog, dammit. Keenum thoughts:
Analyzing Keenum’s game, he’s struggled at times when he’s asked to read the whole field. His reaction time isn’t quick enough to locate the open receiver, get rid of the ball fast and put it in a catchable location. Keenum’s release point is also dropped down slightly because he often has a three-quarters motion. For most quarterbacks, that’s not too big of an issue. But for the 6-foot-1 Keenum, that could be a problem at the next level.
