Nebraska at Penn State NFL Draft watch notes

Getty Images

Contextually, the Nebraska/Penn State game means almost nothing. For what matters much more about Penn State, please go to Black Shoe Diaries. Now, onto why you come to this site.

The best player on the field is Nittany Lions defensive tackle Devon Still. The senior has 15.5 tackles for loss and four sacks on the year. He is the catalyst of a very good defensive line that has helped Penn State grind out several wins this season. Still has played like a top 20.

End Jack Crawford has a lot of potential due to his size at 6-foot-5 and 273 pounds and his athleticism. He just hasn't put it together this season. Penn State has three regular season games left and Crawford needs to start showing something.

As with Miami and Ohio State, it will be interesting to see if the scandal pushes more Penn State underclassmen into the NFL. Junior

Gerald Hodges

leads the team in tackles with 77, with nine for loss and four and a half sacks. He’s not the next great Penn State linebacker, but he should be a solid pro as a backup and special teams player.
Of course, there is another team in this game.
Nebraska’s best player is senior cornerback

Alfonzo Dennard

. He’s been rusty since returning from injury, which is expected. He won’t get challenged much today, or next week against Michigan. Nebraska’s final regular season game comes against Iowa. If Dennard matches up on Marvin McNutt, that’s where he’ll get the chance to show why he’s considered a first-round pick.
Cornhuskers linebacker

Lavonte David

just continues to make tackles, totaling 11 last week against Northwestern. Despite his lacking size, it’s hard not to notice a player who is consistently around the football making plays.
Nebraska’s offensive tackles

Marcel Jones

and

Jermarcus Hardrick

don’t really stand out much, but they’ll be challenged today.

He’s a bit of a liability in the run game, but his potential in the pass game was enough for Buffalo Rumblings.

It’s a high-potential pick for a Detroit defense that needs a solid pass rusher.
