Peyton Manning only thing in way of Colts taking Andrew Luck in 2012 NFL Draft

If it weren't a given already that the Indianapolis Colts would have the first pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, it looks like a certainty now. Every team in the NFL has at least two wins except for the 0-10 Colts.

That puts the Colts in commanding "Suck for Luck" position to take Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck No. 1. Now the only thing standing in the way of that happening is veteran franchise quarterback Peyton Manning, who has missed the season with a neck injury.

Now much of the talk going forward is going to be about whether or not Manning would cause a stir if the Colts consider drafting Luck. As intrepid Colts fan Brad Wells (he of this site, SBN Indiana and Stampede Blue) points out, it may be Manning who has to go. See what he says here and briefly after the jump.

If the Colts suck enough to get the No. 1 pick (which looks likely to happen), and if they use that pick on Luck (which they definitely will), Peyton Manning will not be the starting quarterback in Indianapolis next year. People expecting Luck and Manning to coexist on the same Colts roster are delusional people. It's not realistic. It's not practical. It's not happening.

If you're thinking a Manning-Luck transition will be like Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay, think again. Look at the details. Look at the personalities, the health, and the draft stock of the men in question.

Of course for now this all speculation. Manning could realize his career is winding down and the could embrace Luck. Manning has spoken in the past about being impressed by Luck at his passing camp. It also helps that the perception of Manning is that he’s not a diva who would view a rookie as a threat. Then again, Manning hasn’t been presented with competition the caliber of Luck.
