Report: Dodgers, Matt Kemp Discussing Eight-Year Deal

Dodgers center fielder Matt Kemp is expected by many to be named National League MVP later this week after a spectacular season in which he led the NL in HR, RBI and runs, finished third in BA, and came within one home run of having a 40/40 season. His 10.0 WAR was far and away the highest in the league.

Now, Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reports that the Dodgers are considering rewarding him big-time for that performance:

This would make Kemp one of the highest-paid players in baseball, and keep him in Los Angeles for most of the rest of his career; Kemp just turned 27 in September and this would get the Dodgers his peak years.

It would also give the Dodgers some sorely-needed good publicity, what with all the negative PR they’ve been getting lately about Frank McCourt’s bankruptcy and the possible sale of the team. Dodger fans would know they’d be keeping a top talent for many years to come.

As always, we await developments.
