Fox Sports is reporting that the Houston Astros will dismiss general manager Ed Wade as part of a considerable organizational shake-up, to be announced on Monday.

The Houston Astros are really bad. They have a bad Major League product, and their minor league system is far from being one of the best in baseball. The Houston Astros were also recently sold to Jim Crane. It stands to reason that Crane would want to shake things up, and according to Ken Rosenthal, Monday's going to go down as a big day for the organization. Report:

The Astros are expected to announce major changes Monday, including the dismissal of general manager Ed Wade, according to major league sources.

It's also expected that president of baseball operations Tal Smith will go away - his contract is up - and manager Brad Mills could be among the people getting the ax. But while a lot of Astros suits and coaches could find themselves with a different job status tomorrow, the biggest story here is Wade.

Wade took over as the Astros’ GM in September 2007. The team hasn’t reached the playoffs since, and just lost 100 games for the first time in franchise history. Wade has a...colorful transaction track record, with the Astros and (previously) the Phillies, which I won’t get into right now. Just take my word for it that Wade has earned a dismissal, and that the Astros would be better off in the hands of another. Wade isn’t all bad, but the Astros desperately need to move forward, and Wade isn’t the right kind of GM to help them do that.

Interestingly, the winter meetings begin next Monday. Will the Astros have a front office by then? Stay tuned!
