↵Amazingly, (the Clint Barmes) deal was the Pirates’ first free-agent signing to a contract with a total value of at least $10 million since inking third baseman Steve Buechele for four years and $11 million in the 1991-92 offseason.↵I’m not sure if that’s entirely accurate, but it’s amazing that Buechele and Barmes are in the running for the largest free-agent splurge in Pirates history.
