UCLA To Petition NCAA For Waiver Of Bowl Eligibility

UCLA athletic director Dan Guerrero said in a press conference today that the UCLA Bruins would petition the NCAA for a waiver of bowl eligibility, which if granted would allow the Bruins to play in a post-season bowl game.

The UCLA Bruins are heading to the Pac-12 conference championship game, despite getting blown out by cross town rival USC last weekend 50-0. With the loss, the UCLA Bruins can finish at best 7-6. The Bruins are currently 30+ point underdogs in the championship game against the Oregon Ducks. It's likely the Bruins will finish 6-7, which would make them ineligible for a bowl game.

In order to be eligible for a bowl, a team must hold a winning record. UCLA athletic director Dan Guerrero said in a press conference today that the UCLA Bruins would petition the NCAA for a waiver of bowl eligibility, which if granted would allow the Bruins to play in a post-season bowl game despite holding a losing record. If the Bruins were to win the Pac-12 championship game, they would earn the Pac-12’s BCS Bowl Bid.
