Mariners Outfielder Greg Halman Buried In Netherlands

Tuesday, Mariners outfielder Greg Halman was laid to rest in his native Netherlands.

Tuesday, Seattle Mariners outfielder Greg Halman was buried in a small town in North Holland. One week ago, Halman was reportedly murdered by his younger brother, Jason Halman.

MLB.com’s Greg Johns:

Four of Halman’s former Mariners teammates -- Mike Carp, Alex Liddi, Matt Mangini and Dan Cortes -- were among the several thousand in attendance along with Bob Engle, the club’s vice president of international operations; Wayne Norton, Seattle’s coordinator of European scouting; and Peter Van Dalen, an associate scout in the Netherlands.

The Rev. Keith Louis conducted the service in both Dutch and English so that the Mariners’ guests could follow along.

Johns also reports that Halman was laid to rest in his Mariners uniform. Number 56.

Halman was on the Mariners’ 40-man roster after playing in 35 games for the big club this season, and was generally expected to compete for a spot next spring.

It’s touching that the Mariners made a good showing at Halman’s funeral.
