Red Sox Add Alomar, Lovullo, Lamont To Interview List
On Tuesday, though, the Red Sox announced three new names on their managerial wish list:
Sox to interview Alomar Wednesday, Torey Lovullo Friday and Gene Lamont Saturday.
Sandy Alomar Jr. is currently the bench coach for the Cleveland Indians and Torey Lovullo the first base coach for the Toronto Blue Jays. Neither has any major league managing experience.
Gene Lamont does; he managed both the Chicago White Sox and Pittsburgh Pirates, taking the White Sox to the playoffs with an AL West title in 1993. He last managed the Pirates in 2000, and hasn’t managed in the major leagues since then. He’s currently the third base coach for the Detroit Tigers under Jim Leyland. He’d seem to be a longshot given his age (65 in December), but sometimes teams make choices you wouldn’t otherwise think are logical.
As always, we await further developments.
