Every week we’re giving out the proverbial game ball to college football’s top player of the week and then having a quick break down on the player’s prospects in the NFL.
Game ball of the week: Montee Ball, RB, Wisconsin
Wisconsin junior running back Montee Ball had his best game of the season on Saturday against Purdue, running for 223 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries. Ball has scored at least one touchdown in every game this season and has 21 total.
If Ball continues to have big games, he should be finalist for some postseason awards. Ball has the most rushing touchdowns in the nation and is 12th in yards per game with 119.56.
As a prospect, Ball is similar to many Badgers running backs of the past. He has good size but not breakaway speed or great cutting ability. Still, he’s a bit more nimble than the big hoss runners Wisconsin has had in the past.
While it’s true that Ball greatly benefits from arguably the best run blocking line in the nation, he deserves some of the credit. It’s also nice to see him able to move out and make a catch on occasion.
