Peyton Manning Injury: Colts QB Learns Good News From Surgeon

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning isn’t far enough along in his recovery to hop back onto the field and dive back into action, but he did receive some good news on Thursday. Following x-rays and CT scans, Manning’s neck surgeon came back with good news, saying the fusion in Manning’s neck has taken hold. It’s a step forward, not a massive leap, but a positive step nonetheless.

The statement from Robert Watkins, Manning’s surgeon, was passed along by Jim Irsay by way of his amazing Twitter account.

“X-ray and CT examination of the surgical area shows that the fusion performed in September has achieved firm fixation,” said Dr. Robert Watkins. “Peyton will now be allowed to increase the intensity and breadth of his workouts as tolerated. There remains every indication that his recovery will continue. There still is no timetable for Peyton’s return to practice, which is one of many steps in his expected return to game action. He is working hard on a rehabilitation program outlined in conjunction with myself, Erin Barill and Peyton. His response to this plan in the future will dictate his return date.”

Manning will now likely see how his body responds to more workouts and go from there.
