Marian Hossa is known for his goal-scoring ability, but in the waning moments of the Chicago Blackhawks' 3-2 overtime victory over the San Jose Sharks, he started goals instead of finishing them.
Sharks Vs. Blackhawks: Marian Hossa Facilitates Momentum-Swinging Goals In 3-2 Overtime Win
Marian Hossa put away his goal scoring for a night and provided two big assists in the Blackhawks’ 3-2 overtime win.
With just over a minute left and the Blackhawks down 2-1, Hossa finished a sharp (no pun intended for what comes later) pass sequence and fired a hard slap shot towards Antti Niemi. Though it initially seemed that Hossa simply beat Niemi with his shot, Andrew Brunette actually deflected it past him to give Chicago a chance to win.
In overtime, Hossa once again put a hard shot on net and Niemi wasn't able to corral the rebound. That left proud father Patrick Sharp (hence the earlier pun) to beat Niemi with his follow-up chance as the Blackhawks won their fourth in their last five, three of which have come in overtime or a shootout.
Hossa's 19 assists are second on the team, trailing only Patrick Kane, as well as 15th in the NHL, making him one the league's most complete players. Even if he was trying to score on what ultimately became assists, Hossa and the Blackhawks will surely take the personal two points as well as the two points in the standings.
