Peyton Manning Throws But ‘No Chance’ He Plays This Year

Peyton Manning is well on his way to playing professional football again, but he won't be doing it this season. While Manning has returned to throwing drills with pads on, Indianapolis Colts president Bill Polian confirmed the seemingly inevitable, stating that Manning will not take the field for the Colts in either of their final two games. From Polian's statement at the post-game press conference, following Indy's win over the Tennessee Titans:

[I]t was determined by the doctors that there was no chance he would play this year. His rehabilitation has not come far enough to make it prudent for him to step on the field in game action.

Manning’s neck has healed enough that he can throw without risk, but there’s a big difference between throwing and taking a shot from a defensive player in the NFL. The Colts and Manning don’t even want to think about what might happen if he took a shot like the one Tom Brady took from Elvis Dumervil on Sunday.
