NHL Scores And More: Stars Return Home With A Win, Wings Escape Edmonton

Stars 5, Ducks 3

The Dallas Stars jumped ahead to a 3-0 lead before allowing the Anaheim Ducks to tie the game late in the second period.

Instead of giving the game away completely, the Stars regained their momentum with a pair of goals in the final frame. From Brad Gardner of Defending Big D:

Upon their last return from a lengthy road trip, the Dallas Stars fell 6-0 to the Florida Panthers. They vowed not to let that happen again and, after a slow start, eventually made good on that in promise beating the Anaheim Ducks 5-3 with a strong third period.

The offensive outburst was a relief for a Stars' club that has been struggling in that department for quite some time. The five goal effort was their first in 17 games (the last being the game in Washington). They managed four goals just twice in that span, once in a loss. The Ribeiro line, led by the rejuvenated captain Brenden Morrow starred with a two goal effort and the Benn and Fiddler lines would contribute as well.

Red Wings 3, Oilers 2

It was an ugly win for Detroit, but it was a win nonetheless, helping the Red Wings leapfrog the Blues and reclaim second place in the Central Division. From Amerinadian of Winging It In Motown:

This was a very sloppy game by the Wings. Passes weren't connecting, defensive assignments were missed, and overall the Wings were just off. So what do they do? They turn to their grinders to muck out a win, and the line of Dan Cleary, Drew Miller and Darren Helm spent a lot of time in the Oilers zone and were responsible for 2 of the Wings' 3 goals. They also accounted for 7 of the Wings 28 shots, and were generally the best line for Detroit.
