It might be time to call the Buffalo Sabres the Rochester Americans.
Sabres Vs. Maple Leafs: Buffalo Continues To Lose Starters In 3-2 Loss
Injuries continue to plague the Buffalo Sabres, who lost Thomas Vanek in the third period Thursday.
Plagued by injuries all season, the Sabres may have lost leading goal scorer Thomas Vanek during Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Vanek did not play in the third period, but has been suffering from a nagging upper-body injury all week that has kept him out of two practices. Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff is calling Vanek’s status “day-to-day,” but they are already missing so many players.
Those players include Tyler Ennis (ankle), Colin Stuart (lower-body), Ville Leino (lower-body), Nathan Gerbe (concussion), Brad Boyes (knee) and Tyler Myers (wrist). The Sabres also missed Ryan Miller for a period of time after his collision with Boston's Milan Lucic earlier this season.
Without Vanek, the Sabres lose 17 goals and 19 assists, which could be fatal for a team trying to keep up in the Eastern Conference. Buffalo, 1-4-1 in its last six games, will face the Washington Capitals twice next week, a team that is tied with it in the conference standings. The walking wounded in Buffalo will need to muster up some strength.
