Rutgers’ Khaseem Greene bypassing 2012 NFL Draft

The 2012 NFL Draft will be loaded with weakside linebackers, but it won't include Rutgers junior Khaseem Greene.

After submitting paperwork with the NFL Draft advisory board, Greene announced today that he would be back for his senior season, the Newark Star Ledger reports.

“I’ve decided the best thing for me is to stay in school,” Greene told reporters. “I’m a Rutgers guy. I love it here.

“I know in my heart it’s the right decision.”

It's for the best for Greene. In the 2012 draft, he would have been behind fellow weakside linebackers Zach Brown, Nebraska's Lavonte David, TCU's Tank Carder and Florida State's Nigel Bradham, among others. That's even if NFL evaluators consider the former free safety a linebacker at the next level.

Greene excelled at the position for the Scarlet Knight this season. Greene enters Friday’s Pinstripe Bowl with 127 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and 3 sacks.

Now Rutgers Nation awaits the decision of wide receiver Mohamed Sanu. As the Ledger notes, he's expected to announce his after the game. It's unclear if that means directly after the game or some time before the Jan. 15 declaration deadline.
