Capitals Vs. Sabres: Caps Best Medicine For Sabres In 4-2 Win

A banged-up Buffalo team once again healed itself at Washington’s expense in a 4-2 win Monday.

The Buffalo Sabres entered Monday's game with the Washington Capitals in need of some positive energy; they had lost five of six and three straight and were missing several key regulars. Before the two teams met November 26, the Sabres had lost three straight and four of six and were missing several key regulars.

Perhaps the Caps are exactly what the doctor ordered.

A four-goal first period - including two before the period was four minutes old - lifted the struggling Sabres to a much-needed 4-2 win over the Caps Monday.

Buffalo had scored six total goals in its three consecutive losses, but had two-thirds of that after 20 minutes. Jason Pominville, Matt Ellis, Christian Ehrhoff and Brayden McNabb scored in the first to put the game out of reach. Even without Ville Leino, Tyler Ennis and Tyler Myers, among others, out of the lineup, the Sabres clicked.

In November 26's 5-1 win over the Caps, the Sabres resembled their AHL affiliate while missing nine starters, including Ryan Miller and Brad Boyes, who played Monday.

Fortunately for Buffalo, which now sits in 10th in the East, they play Washington again Friday. An old adage says laughter is the best medicine. Truth be told, it was a laugher Monday.
