Penguins call-up forward Dustin Jeffrey, in the NHL lineup thanks to injuries to Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, among others, suffered a lower-body injury in tonight's Pittsburgh vs. Los Angeles Kings game.
Penguins Injury Woes Go From Bad To Worse
↵We’re not really sure what the injury is at this point and we’re not sure if he’ll miss any extended time, but if he does, the news is seriously bad for the Penguins. Via Jonathan Bombulie of the Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Citizens’ Voice:
↵↵If Jeffrey is out for any length of time, know this: There are no centers on NHL contracts left in Wilkes-Barre. None.
↵↵They have the ability to acquire players (thanks to Malkin’s place on long-term injured reserve) but they were hoping to use that spot to replace Malkin, not to replace Malkin’s replacement. Yeesh, that’s a loaded sentence.
↵
In any event, we don't know know how bad Jeffrey's injury is. According to writer Mike Colligan, Jeffrey suffered the injury after colliding with Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick in the second period. For the sake of the Pens, their fans, and their battered lineup, hopefully he's not out too long.
