If there is one quarterback who should benefit from an athletic showcase like the NFL Scouting Combine, it's Colin Kaepernick.
PFT: Colin Kaepernick doing full combine workout
The Nevada signal caller will get a chance to as he plans on having a full workout in Indianapolis later this month.
“He is absolutely going to do everything at the Combine,” Kaepernick’s agent, Scott Smith, told Pro Football Talk Saturday. “He wouldn’t do it any other way.”
If you recall, several quarterbacks last year had it any other way and decided not to throw at the combine. That included Tim Tebow, Sam Bradford, Colt McCoy and even Dan LeFevour .
As PFT writer Evan Silva reports, Kaepernick has run the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds. To me, a good comparison for Kaepernick is Vince Young. They’re both lanky, athletic quarterbacks with an abnormal throwing motion.
Still, that throwing motion worked for Kaepernick in Nevada’s pistol offense. As a senior, he completed 64.9 percent of his passes for 3,022 yards and 21 touchdowns. He also rushed the ball for an impressive 1,206 yards and 20 touchdowns in 2010. It was the third year in a row where he ran for 1,100 yards or more.
It also should be noted that more NFL teams are starting to sprinkle pistol plays into their playbook. With that in mind, Kaepernick could be good option for a team looking to transform its playbook.
Of course, he’ll have to help himself at the combine. At least he’s giving himself the chance to.
