Braves’ Peter Moylan Gives Up Cap’n Crunch, Too

From Braves beat writer David O’Brien:

Braves reliever Peter Moylan on going from 248 lbs to 225: "I had to, I was fat as s—- last year. There comes a time when you look at yourself and go, alright, time to stop … It doesn’t come off as easily as it used to. I worked my ass off, now it’s off. Hopefully I can keep it off during the season."

↵

"I walked in yesterday and got on the scales and it was not 225.3, it was 223 on the money. I couldn’t believe it."

For the record, Moylan is a really good pitcher, with a 2.44 ERA over the last four seasons. My favorite Peter Moylan stat: In 2009 he pitched 73 innings and gave up zero home runs. That’s a post-1984 best (though if you really want to be amazed, check out Greg Minton).

↵Still, Moylan’s got room for improvement. He is 32, and he does walk a lot of guys. You have to admire a successful player who’s not content to rest on his, umm, fat as s—- laurels.
