Paul Pierce will have an MRI on his left foot after aggravating an injury in the Boston Celtics win over the Miami Heat on Sunday afternoon. Pierce shot 0-10 from the floor in the victory, his worst shooting performance since an 0-11 night after a rookie in 1999. The Boston Globe also reports that Pierce's right hand has been bothersome; Pierce blamed his poor shooting on the hand injury.
Paul Pierce Injury Draws Concern, MRI After Celtics’ Win Over Heat
The Celtics remain rather banged up, with Marquis Daniels, Shaquille O'Neal, Jermaine O'Neal and Delonte West out. Boston can ill-afford to miss Pierce, its best scorer and a key defender. But if Pierce is going to put up goose eggs, the Celtics may have no other choice than to allow him to heal up.
Pierce's injury was problematic on defense too, as Celtics coach Doc Rivers had to use point guard Rajon Rondo as a defender on mammoth forward LeBron James. It worked to some extent, but was only an option in the first place because Miami is so thin at point guard.
