Florida LB Neiron Ball Hospitalized With Burst Blood Vessel In Brain

Scary news out of Gainesville: Sophomore Florida linebacker Neiron Ball is in Shands Hospital's ICU, where he's undergoing treatment for what the school is referring to as a "congenital vascular condition," after a blood vessel ruptured in his brain. It seems sadly unusual to be reporting on a story of a player with a congenital defect whose condition was detected in time to save his life, but here we are:

Doctors were able to stop the bleeding and moved him to the Intensive Care Unit to monitor him. The hope is that fluid will not build up in his brain and there will not be swelling.
A source said Ball was prompted to get medical assistance while resting in his dorm room. It is not known when Ball was admitted to the hospital, but he has been there at least one day and night already.

The Palm Beach Post, who first reported Ball's hospitalization, also has an email from Ball's sister, who says he should be "in the clear" within three days. Our thoughts and prayers are with Neiron Ball and his family.
