Despite some injuries as a sophomore, Clemson defensive end Da'Quan Bowers entered his junior season with an underachiever label.
Inspired words fuel Da’Quan Bowers
Things clicked for Bowers as a junior when he finished with 15.5 sacks and 25 tackles for loss. It was words before the season that fueled Bowers.
Days before his death, Dennis Bowers offered his son some advice.
“He just told him he wasn’t aggressive enough,” Linda Bowers told the Raleigh News Observer last week. “He told him he needed to be more aggressive. ‘This is your breakout year, and that’s what I want you to do.’”
It was that aggression that helped lead Bowers to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy in 2010. It’s all the more impressive considering Bowers played through a torn meniscus.
