North Carolina wide receiver Greg Little faced the media at the NFL Combine Friday with contrition.
Little was suspended for the 2010 season due to illegal contact with an agent. He said the suspension is something that will "haunt him forever." Little believes with him on the field, North Carolina could have won a national championship in 2010.
"It's a mistake that I made and I'm very remorseful for it," Little said. "I'm just trying to show everybody this is a mistake I made and I accept it. It's not who I am, it's just something I've done."
Greg Little humbly faces the media
“I knew what I was doing was wrong. … It was stupidity on my part.”
He referred to the suspension as the defining moment in his life.
“Without saying this the wrong way, I think this was one of the best things that ever happened in my life,” Little said. “it was the defining moment in my life where I said ‘Hey, this is not who you are, this is something you’ve done and made a mistake.’”
For Little, it was hard to watch North Carolina games, particularly early in the season. Although he stayed in school, he began training at his former high school in Durham, Hillside. There, he worked with MMA fighter Wayne Hunter.
“It was the most unorthodox training I’ve ever done, but it got me in the best shape of my life,” Little said.
Little’s NFL position may still be in question, though. He weighed in at the Combine at 6-foot-2, 231 pounds. It’s a big size for a wide receiver and Little played running back as well during his college career.
“In my whole career, I’ve never played the same position twice successively,” Little said. “I think I have very raw talent. In any system in the NFL, I feel I’ll be very productive.”
