Larry Drew II Reportedly Leaves North Carolina, Will Transfer

North Carolina Tar Heels point guard Larry Drew II has stunned college basketball fan by reportedly leaving the basketball team with the intent to transfer. According to ESPN's Pat Forde, Drew left campus on Thursday.

Drew, a junior, has seen his playing time reduced from last season, having lost his starting job to freshman Kendall Marshall in December, and his overall production diminish along with it, but this is still an unexpected development for an upperclassmen at a program like UNC.

According to reports, Drew has been away from the team since the Tar Heels victory over Boston College on Tuesday. No word has been given on where Drew intends to transfer.

Larry Drew II is the son of current Atlanta Hawks coach Larry Drew, and was one of the most recognizable faces on the current Carolina roster. Drew averaged 10 minutes a game during the Tar Heels’ championship run in 2009, but also faced harsh criticism from fans last year when the team failed to even make to NCAA Tournament.

This season, Drew has averaged 22 minutes per game while leading the team in assists.
