La Liga’s marquee match of the weekend features two teams going in completely opposite directions, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. The Blaugranes are currently on a record setting win streak in La Liga, while Atleti appear to be a long distance outside of UEFA Champions League contention, with Europa League even looking slightly out of reach at the moment.
Spanish La Liga, Round 22: Barcelona Face Struggling Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid And Villarreal Are Favorites
Still, Atletico Madrid have plenty of talent, and it would be ridiculous to assume they can’t right the ship. Diego Forlan and Sergio Aguero have world class talent by almost anyone’s standard, David De Gea is one of the best young keepers in Europe, and their defense is average at worst.
This is Barcelona, though. Barca are on an absolute tear. They’re a train that everyone appears incapable of slowing down. Atleti have the talent to give them problems, but if that talent looks as disjointed as it has in recent weeks, we could see another 3-0 or 4-0 scoreline in favor of the Blaugranes.
That game kicks off at 4 pm ET, but our coverage starts with Villarreal against Levante. The Yellow Submarine appear to be in a decent position to push Real Madrid for second place in La Liga, and at the very worst, they would like to secure a top four position. They’ll be heavy favorites this evening against relegation threatened Levante.
Tomorrow, we’ll have an eye on Real Madrid. Their match against Real Sociedad kicks off at 1 pm ET.
