Zach Randolph and Kevin Durant each scored 31 points for their respective teams as the Memphis Grizzlies (minus Rudy Gay) knocked off the Oklahoma City Thunder, but Z-Bo was a bit more efficient in earning his tally. Tony Allen (yes, Tony Allen) helped Randolph out with 27 unexpected points on 9-12 shooting to get the Grizzlies a 105-101 overtime win.
Grizzlies Vs. Thunder: Zach Randolph Outduels Kevin Durant As Memphis Reigns
Randolph and Mike Conley each scored four points in overtime, and Durant scored four of his own, but only got two from the rest of his team. Jeff Green shot 0-4 in overtime (and just 2-12 for the game) and Russell Westbrook was 0-2 (a much better 7-15 for the game). Z-Bo routinely abused Green, which is understandable given how much size (horizontally speaking) Green gives up to Randolph. The Thunder did a remarkably good job on the boards -- they had a crazy 18 offensive rebounds, and the excellent o-boarding Grizz had just six (four of those from Z-Bo). But Randolph got his point on initial shot attempts, hitting 11-19.
Allen had five steals en route to those 27 points. He'd actually scored 30 once as a Celtics, all the way back in 2006. But Allen hadn't hit so much as 20 points since 2008.
The Thunder had 21 seconds to win the game at the end of regulation with the score tied at 95-95. The shot OKC ended up getting? A Russell Westbrook three-pointer. ... Westbrook attempted to drive the lane as the clock wound down, but Conley poked the ball away, forcing Russ to collect and quickly shoot. James Harden still almost won the game with a tip-in off the miss, but it wasn't to be.
In other action:
76ers 117, Hawks 73: When Atlanta loses, it loses in style. Louis Williams scored 20 off the bench. Al Horford didn't play.
Spurs 100, Pistons 89: Matt Bonner is back! He scored 10 points off the bench. Will Bynum had 21 off the Pistons' bench, including this outburst.
Bynumite!
Bucks 92, Raptors 74: It's back to losing for the Raptors, apparently. Andrew Bogut had five blocks in 30 minutes.
Wolves 112, Rockets 108: One step forward, one step back for Houston. Kevin Love had 20 points and 14 rebounds, but the Minnesota bench (wait, they have one of those? oh yeah! that's where Jonny Flynn lives) came through the biggest. Sebastian Telfair had 14 in 17 minutes, and Wayne Ellington hit for 18.
