People may compare Colorado cornerback Jimmy Smith to elite cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, but the incoming rookie already thinks more highly of himself.
"I like the comparison, he's a shutdown corner in the NFL," Smith said Sunday the NFL Combine. "I think I have better ball skills than he does, though."
Like all the great cornerbacks, Smith was rarely thrown during his final college season. He said the one chance he had at an interception was a one-arm grab early in the season. After that, he said, "maybe three passes" were thrown his direction.

“I definitely take that as a compliment that they didn’t throw my way, ever,” Smith said. “Their offensive coordinators respected me.”
It’s hard to not respect Smith, based on his size alone. At the Combine, Smith measured in at 6’2 1/4 and 211 pounds with a 77-inch wingspan. They’re eye-popping size numbers, but Smith said cornerback is the position for him.
On the whole season, Smith said he gave up one touchdown – on a double move against Nebraska.
Smith said he’s looking forward to the challenge of the NFL, and perhaps getting more passes thrown his direction.
“I can’t wait, I want to be in games because I didn’t get thrown at in college,” he said.
