Texas high school basketball fans have been clamoring for this matchup of two, top-12 nationally ranked teams in the Conference 5A finals played in Austin. Saturday night, their wish is granted.
Marcus enters the title game as the fourth ranked team in the nation per MaxPreps. Lakeview holds the number twelve spot in the same poll.
Located about an hour northwest of Dallas, Marcus is led by a dynamic junior guard trio in Marcus Smart, Phil Forte and A.J. Lucky. Marcus has the ability to play stifling defense and smother their opponents. In fact, the last time the surrendered more than 52-points in a contest was in their final game of 2010.
A Marcus win will leave them an early favorite for the 2011-2012 national title as the team returns a pair of 6-foot-8 big men in addition to the three aforementioned guards.
Lakeview, located just outside of Dallas, enters the championship game with three talented guards of its own in Toddrick Gotcher (Texas Tech recruit), Chris Jones (North Texas) and Jamarias Demas. In a contrast of styles, Lakeview is regarded as an offensive powerhouse who will look to push the tempo of the game.
The matchup is sure to be one of the best seen nationwide during the boys high school basketball championship season.
