In the Class 5A final Saturday night in Boulder, the two-time defending champion Regis Jesuit Raiders (22-5) look to win a third consecutive title against a white hot Boulder team (25-3) who defeated top seed Highlands Ranch in the semifinals for their 21st consecutive victory.
Regis Jesuit, a school 20-minutes east of Denver, crushed Arapahoe 75-47 in their semifinal game, avenging a December loss. It was their 14th consecutive playoff victory.
Junior Tanner Samson led the semifinal charge with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while three seniors chipped in double-digit scoring efforts.
Arguably the most experienced team in the state, Regis Jesuit’s roster boasts 11 upper-classmen including seven seniors.
Senior guard Riley Grabau leads Boulder with nearly 20 points per game including 30 in the semifinal round.
For Boulder, a win would earn the school its first boys basketball state title since 1979, when ironically enough, the team defeated Regis for the championship.
