One of the best draft-related features you’ll find online is Wes Bunting’s rumors articles on National Football Post.
Is J.J. Watt the next Adam Carriker?
Often it’s hard to give merit to rumors that don’t cite sources. But Bunting seems to have credible contacts, so I’m comfortable passing along links to his coverage.
This week's rumors is another batch of goodies, none better than what Bunting was told about Wisconsin's J.J. Watt. The defensive end is probably seeing his stock rise after stellar workouts. While Watt is a good player, he's perhaps not a top 10 talent.
One scout referenced Rams first round bust Adam Carriker when talking to Bunting about Watt. It’s easy to see why considering both were high effort power defensive ends without a lot of great moves. Sometimes those kinds of players just don’t translate that great to the NFL.
Another player Bunting notes that may not translate that well to the NFL is Eastern Washington’s Taiwan Jones. The running back has plenty of speed, but doesn’t have the kind of build you typically see in a running back.
Jones has reportedly been trying to get up to 200 pounds, but he may not be able to keep up his speed at that weight.
