Updated 2011 NFL Mock Draft: 2nd Round

This is an area I typically stay away from because predicting the 2nd round of the NFL Draft is impossible. However, part of the fun of covering the NFL Draft is going out on a limb and making predictions. Please make sure to check out my which will help explain a lot of these 2nd round selections. As usual, I am hoping for some good comments and feedback!

33. New England (from Car.)- Mikel Leshoure- RB- Illinois

- Leshoure has a good shot to sneak into the first round but if he falls this far I feel the Pats will scoop him up. Leshoure has a chance to be a special running back in the NFL.

34. Buffalo- Derrek Sherrod- OT- Miss St.

- The Bills have had issues at the tackle position for a few season and Sherrod has the potential to develop into a nice starting tackle. Locker is an option here but I have a feeling that Buffalo likes Fitzpatrick.

35. Cincinnati- Danny Watkins- G- Baylor

- Bobby Williams is not going to play forever and Watkins would be a nice replacement.

36. Denver- Rahim Moore- S- UCLA

- Moore will provide youth and playmaking ability to an aging secondary.

37. Cleveland- Christian Ballard- DT/DE- Iowa

- It will take several picks for Cleveland to fill the holes along the defensive line. Ballard has the skill set to fit nicely as a penetrating defensive tackle in a 4-3 scheme.

38. Arizona- Jake Locker- QB- Washington

- The Cardinals get their quarterback of the future here in the 2nd round. Locker is a talented quarterback with upside but needs time to develop. Look for Arizona to add a vet to help mentor Locker.

39. Tennessee- Christian Ponder- QB- Florida State

- This draft is shaping up nicely for the Titans. In adding both Fairley and Ponder they get players that have the potential to contribute early.

40. Dallas- Martez Wilson- LB- Illinois

- Wilson represents best player available but also is someone that can help the Cowboys on defense. Wilson has the versatility to play either a rush linebacker or on the inside.

41. Washington- Andy Dalton- QB- TCU

- Washington is in a tough position because they need to figure out if they have to trade up to get their targeted quarterback. The Redskins could make a move in either round 1 or 2 but they need to select a quarterback somewhere early.

42. Houston- Brooks Reed- OLB- Arizona

- Wade Phillips is bring the 3-4 defense to Houston and pieces will need to be added. Reed is a rising prospect that could fit at the outside linebacker position.

43. Minnesota- Stephen Paea- DT- Oregon State

- Big Pat Williams is no longer a member of the Vikings and Kevin Williams is facing a 4 game suspension. Paea is a versatile player that will come in and help the Vikings get through the early part of the season.

44. Detroit- Mason Foster- LB- Washington

- I love Foster and feel that he has a real bright future. Detroit has holes to fill at linebacker and Foster can make a difference right away.

45. San Francisco- Jarvis Jenkins- DT- Clemson

- The 49ers will be looking to replace Aubrayo Franklin who looks unlikely to return next season. Jenkins has a good strong base and the ability to play 2 gap football.

46. Denver (from Mia)- Kyle Rudolph- TE- Notre Dame

- Denver is bare at tight end after McDaniels brought in his type of players. Rudolph gives the Broncos a pass catching option at the position.

47. St. Louis- Torrey Smith- WR- Maryland

- The Rams need to give Bradford more weapons and Smith has the ability to stretch the field.

48. Oakland- Aaron Williams- CB/S- Texas

- The Raiders are thin in the secondary and Williams could help out at either corner or safety.

49. Jacksonville- Jon Baldwin- WR- Pitt

-The Jags have several smaller receivers and with Sims-Walker moving on there is a need at the position. Baldwin is a bigger receiver with a lot of potential.

50. San Diego- Jabaal Sheard- OLB/DE- Pitt

- Sheard will be looking at moving to outside linebacker if he is selected here. However, he has the potential to provide a pass rush off the edge.

51. Tampa Bay- Ryan Williams- RB- Virginia Tech

- Behind LeGarrette Blount there isn’t much talent and adding Williams would give them a good two headed monster. While Blount had a successful rookie season there are still some concerns about his character. Williams would provide good depth and insurance.

52. New York Giants- Quan Sturdivant- LB- UNC

- The Giants are still looking for an answer at the middle linebacker position.

53. Indianapolis- Orlando Franklin- G- Florida

- The Colts need help at several spots along their offensive line.

54. Philadelphia- Marcus Cannon- G- TCU

- Andy Reid loves big interior offensive linemen and they don’t come much bigger than Cannon.

55. Kansas City- Leonard Hankerson- WR- Miami

-The Chiefs need to find someone to keep the double teams off of Bowe. Hankerson showed this past season that he is a playermaker.

56. New Orleans- Drake Nevis- DT- LSU

- Nevis has an extremely quick first step that will allow him to penetrate the pocket in the NFL.

57. Seattle- Allen Bailey- DT/DE- Miami

- Not sure what type of NFL player Bailey will be but his athletic ability is undeniable. He could play the unique 5 technique position in Pete Carroll’s defense.

58. Baltimore- Titus Young- WR- Boise State

- Young's playmaking ability will appeal to the Ravens. He is a player they could stick in the slot to create mismatches.

59. Atlanta- Randall Cobb- WR- Kentucky

- The Falcons will be looking to provide Matt Ryan with a few more playmakers. Cobb is a versatile athlete that can create in space.

60. New England- Rashard Carmichael- CB- Virginia Tech

- New England should think about packaging this pick to move up in the draft somewhere or maybe they will trade this for a 1st round pick next season. Either way its a good place to get some secondary depth.

61. San Diego (from NYJ)- Greg Little- WR- UNC

- Little fits the mold of a Chargers wide receiver a position they are likely to address.

62. Chicago- Stefen Wisniewski- C/G- Penn State

- Olin Kruetz’s play has begun to decline and there is little to no depth behind him.

63. Pittsburgh- Kendric Ellis- DT/NT- Hampton

- Casey Hampton is in the same position as Kruetz and you can never have enough depth on the defensive line.

64. Green Bay- Donta Moch- OLB- Nevada

- This is a developmental pick but if anyone can get use of Moch’s speed its Capers.
