The BUST-O-METER is back again to break down our top 15 draft bust risks. The series of articles will look at two prospects per week breaking down why I feel they have a high potential for busting. Many factors played into my ranking including potential draft position. The draft position is very important because if they are selected high than what their production warrants it puts them at a higher likely hood of busting. These articles always bring a ton of feedback and are highly controversial which is what makes them so fun.
NFL Draft BUST-O-METER: #9 Ryan Kerrigan

For a reference, I like to classify a bust as someone that doesn’t live up to their draft position. This means that if a player is selected #1 overall I expect him to be a dominate player in the league. I also take into consideration what position the player is projected to play in the NFL. For example, if someone is selected in the top 10 and is projected as a rush 3-4 linebacker I expect to see a high sack total. Of course, there are many other factors that are specific for each player so check out the rest of the article after the JUMP.

BUST-O-METER: 6 out of 10
Projected Draft Range: Mid 1st Round
Thoughts: Kerrigan has been a much talked about prospect because of his ability to create pressure. He is quick off the football and has the ability to flatten around the edge and get to the quarterback. During this past season, Kerrigan was one of the more disruptive players in America. In his Senior season, he compiled 26 tackles for loss and 12.5 sacks while facing off against strong Big 10 competition.
However, there are legitimate concerns about where Kerrigan best fits. At 6-3 263lbs, Kerrigan will be undersized playing defensive end in a 4-3 defensive system. His lack of size is coupled with some struggles holding at the point of attack and supporting the run. Some evaluators have also raised questions about Kerrigan’s ability to stand up and play outside linebacker. His lack of experience on his feet concern teams wanting him to transition to the outside linebacker position.
Overall, nobody is doubting Kerrigan’s ability to create pressure which could lead to him being selected early. NFL teams are always on the hunt for the next great pass rusher. His success will depend on his ability to either hold up against the run or drop into coverage depending on what scheme he is squeezed into.
