Once again, Miami Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder is making noise.
Channing Crowder proves idiocy by blaming Mel Kiper for money woes
Instead of fighting Matt Light or sparring verbally with Rex Ryan, Crowder took aim at ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper. As PFT pointed out, Crowder assumed based on Kiper's analysis that he would be a first-round pick and get a fat rookie contract.
Wrong. Crowder didn’t get selected until the third round. The trouble is, he may have been spending like a first-round pick. Crowder said on WQAM that he follows the draft, but now with some skepticism.
“Mel Kiper and all, he messed me over, he lied to me, told me I was top-20 had me go out and spend X amount of dollars and then owe the bank stuff,” Crowder said, via SportsRadioInterviews.com. “So I don’t know the guys. They’re guessing just like we guess — I can guess who the Dolphins are going to take too. But I look at it a little bit and hear the ‘experts,’ I guess they call them, to see what they say.”
If Crowder was being serious – that he based his spending on Kiper’s prediction – he’s stunningly idiotic.
Even if Kiper eventually moved Crowder down in his always-fluctuating rankings, why should a player base their spending habits on something like that? Of course every draft analyst is playing the guessing game. Those who do it in an intelligent fashion make a name for themselves. But just because they’re on television doesn’t mean they’re always right.
The draft is a crapshoot. Any player entering it should know as much. For Crowder to put Kiper at blame for his economic stupidity says more about him than the draft guru’s work.
Now, hopefully Crowder doesn’t threaten to fight me.
