Ajax Board Of Directors Forced To Resign After Conflict With Johan Cruyff

Due to disagreements about football policy matters with the legendary Johan Cruyff, the entire board of directors of AFC Ajax Amsterdam in The Netherlands’ Eredivisie has opted to quit rather than oppose Cruyff, according to reports. When speaking about the decision to quit, rather than work out the conflict or force Cruyff to back down, chairman Uri Coronel reportedly used the reasoning that “Cruyff is more important than us.”

Said football coach Raymond Verheijen, via twitter:

In the next phase of Johan Cruyff's revolution former Ajax stars Frank de Boer, Dennis Bergkamp & Wim Jonk will take total charge of club.less than a minute ago via web

Verheijen, a Dutchman, has spent extensive time as a coach in the United Kingdom and is currently an assistant coach with the Welsh national team.

Ajax were once one of the great powers in European football, mostly while Cruyff was a player, but also well into the 1990s. In recent years, they have seen their power on the continent drop off. Currently, the team sits in third place in Eredivisie and is struggling to replace their former star Luis Suarez, who departed in the winter for Liverpool of the English Premier League.
