Prior to Thursday's game, a pitcher hadn't begun an Opening Day start by giving up back-to-back home runs in forty years, and the Brewers had never hit a home run to lead off the season. Both of those statements simultaneously turned false. Jerry Crasnick tweets:
Reds’ Edinson Volquez Gives Up Back-To-Back Home Runs To Brewers To Start Season

↵#Brewers first team to open season with back to back HRs since Pete Rose & Bobby Tolan did it off Don Drysdale for #reds in 1969

In that game, Drysdale showing remarkable resilience -- after those two home runs, he pitched six innings of scoreless, two-hit ball and eventually got the win. As an Edinson Volquez apologist, I hope he can recover in similar fashion, and honestly I'm just happy to see him healthy and on the mound. I won't deny, however, that I responded to the back-to-back home runs with a hearty, "more like Edinson LOLquez," however.
